Automotive... Case Study
This case study concerns how a large automotive supplier of polyurethane auto glass bonding adhesives wanted to benchmark their competitors in China. Benchmarking included manufacturing headcounts, manufacturing costs and capacity, plant configuration and process descriptions, raw material suppliers, distributor pricing, some raw material costs, product portfolio, cost of sales, administrative costs and research and development costs.

A summary discussing how a global coatings manufacturer wanted to understand the competitive market share of their competitors in China along with competitive pricing. The client was happy to learn about manufacturers supplying each plant, products supplied, volumes consumed annually, pricing and distributor involvement.

This story talks about a large automotive parts injection molder in China wanted to know the manufacturing and part costs of high volume parts manufactured. We discovered the raw material suppliers, volumes and pricing from target businesses by involvement with stafferes in shipping, logistics, security, administration, lab, and production facilities.

We helped a rubber seal business access all competitors supplying into the China marketplace. This story discusses uncovering information about a major Chinese competitor though contact with truck drivers, security personnel, an assistant general manager, an executive assistant, maintenance personnel, lab technicians, and procurement staffers.
Catheter... Case Study
A large catheter supplier wanted to understand the factors driving the use of triple lumen, Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC) and the existing vascular access products which would loose sales volume if PICC growth continued. We provided information showing dramatic growth for two product segments at the expense of two other product segments.

This engagement involved examining the potential success of a Japanese medical device, the fistula catheter, in the United States and Canada. Our detailed analysis discovered strong interest in the marketplace as the fistula catheter protected the healthcare provider from accidental needle sticks, reduced discomfort during dialysis, and eliminated infiltration.

A client who moved their medical device manufacturing to Mexico wanted to know how some competitors can maintain profitable operations in the United States. We found that two of three companies were planning to move their manufacturing operations to Mexico. The third company was able to keep its production in the United States due to long term tax incentives and a labor agreement in a community along the Texas-Mexico border.

A custom kit provider requested competitive information about their direct competitors. Our field research determined most competitors had similar business models, but some were more responsive than others. Specifically, the prototype departments worked with customer service to produce drawings and non-sterilizable sample trays. All companies had daily meetings with representatives from throughout the company to discuss new custom kit designs and a medical device specialist would support production on the manufacturing floor.
Pharmaceutical... Case Study
This analysis showed that pharmaceuticals and over the counter drugs were being manufactured for the Chinese domestic and European markets. Contract manufacturing was also occuring for over the counter drugs being sold in China.

A pharmaceutical company wanted to understand the new chemical entities in all stages of development for their major competitor in the same therapeutic area. We showed our client that their competitor's work mapping the human genome was driving new drug discovery. Our work involved speaking with chemists, spectroscopy scientists, genomic scientists, regulatory authorities, pharmacists, drug information personnel, chemical entity formulators and clinicians.

We helped a large chemical manufacturer grow its core business into the pharmaceutical industry. The project involved understanding the buying process for basic chemicals, excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients at 30 pharmaceutical and generic drug companies. The result was a reallignment of the sales and technical support functions calling on the drug companies to allign with buying process at drug companies.
Private Equity... Case Study
Primary Impact evaluated the value proposition of a liquid pharmaceutical used as an antimicrobial and anticoagulant catheter lock technology for dialysis patients. Our report showed the private equity firm that the drug could reduce blood system infection related costs for Medicare by 75%. We also showed that approvals for individual product reimbursement by Medicare could be lengthy considering the present system of reimbursing for individual dialysis treatment, and not individual products.
Chinese... Case Study
A large foam business wanted to know how competitive it sourced raw materials compared to its key competitors in China and the U.S.. We identified "landed" material pricing, volumes consumed and suppliers used for 10 competitors in China and the U.S.. Materials examined included Nitrile butadiene rubber, EPDM rubber, PVC suspension resin, LD-PE, blowing agents, chlorinated paraffins, alumina tri-hydrate, brominated chemicals, phosphates and antimony tri-oxide.
Setting Up Plastic Case Study
This story involves helping a Chinese plastic distributor to setup a compounding business in China to expand their profit centers. We traveled throughout China to find a partner with Keya (now part of Coperion) twinn screw extruders to manufacture the compound. The project also involved locally sourcing all raw materials including: PVC resin, acrylic impact modifier, acrylic processing aid, tin stabilizer, acrylic lubricating aid, calcium stearate, paraffin wax and EBS wax.
Plastic Compounder... Case Study
A major U.S. plastic compounder wanted in-depth site analyses of four of their competitors in China. The on-site analyses involved on-site interviews with plant personnel, managers, warehouse workers, customer service, and laboratory workers. Off-site our analyses involved traveling to industry leaders, salespeople, resin and additive suppliers, distributors and customers.
Resin... Case Study
Our report showed a resin supplier the opportunities in roll-to-roll plastic film solutions which fit their evaluation criteria and would require the development of new film technologies. The client provided two dozen application area for us to evaluate in the film conversion market. The analysis indicated five opportunities that had substantial volume, required technical expertise for a solution, and showed that customers would pay a premium.
